“Better in the Safe than Sorry” Medicine Lock Box Campaign

Are You Aware of the Statistics?

In Ventura County, nearly 200 people die each year from unintentional opioid overdose. Prescription painkiller abuse and accidental opioid overdoses are part of a nationwide crisis and, unfortunately, are also prevalent here in this community.

73% of Ventura County residents surveyed indicated that prescription drugs for uses not as prescribed are “fairly easy” or “very easy” to obtain.

The 2019 National Survey on Drug Use and Health shows that most misused Rx drugs were obtained from family and friends, very often from the home medicine cabinet.

Protect Your Loved Ones: The Importance of Medicine Lock Boxes

In recent years, the opioid crisis has become a pressing issue affecting communities worldwide. One way to combat this crisis is by securing prescription medications within our homes. Medicine Lock Boxes offer a simple yet effective solution to keep opioids and other medications out of the wrong hands.

  1. Protect Children and Teenagers: Children and teenagers are particularly vulnerable to accidental ingestion or experimentation with prescription medications. Medicine Lock Boxes provide a crucial barrier, preventing young family members from accessing potentially harmful opioids and other drugs.
  2. Prevent Unauthorized Access: Medicine Lock Boxes ensure prescription medications are safely stored away from family members, guests, and potential intruders. By keeping opioids secure, we can significantly reduce the risk of misuse and abuse.
  3. Promote Responsible Medication Management: Locking away medications encourages responsible usage and prevents accidental ingestion. It also helps individuals keep track of their prescriptions, reducing the likelihood of overuse or dependency.
  4. Combat Prescription Drug Abuse: Opioid addiction often starts at home, with easy access to prescription medications. By implementing Medicine Lock Boxes, we can disrupt this cycle and hinder the progression of the opioid crisis.
  5. Protect Vulnerable Populations: Elderly family members or individuals with cognitive impairments are particularly vulnerable to medication mishaps. Locking away medications ensures their safety and prevents unintended overdoses.
  • Durable Construction: Look for lock boxes made of sturdy materials, such as steel, to ensure durability and security.
  • Secure Locking Mechanism: Opt for lock boxes with reliable locking mechanisms, such as combination locks or key locks, to prevent unauthorized access.
  • Adequate Storage Space: Choose a lock box with sufficient storage capacity to accommodate all prescription medications and other valuables.

Using a Medicine Lock Box is a proactive step towards safeguarding your family and community from the devastating effects of opioid misuse. Don’t wait until it’s too late—secure your medications today and be part of the solution to combat the opioid crisis.
