Narcan / Naloxone: Saving Lives in Camarillo

If a loved one or someone you know may be at risk of an overdose, request an Overdose Rescue Kit with Narcan and get training on how to use it. It is free and confidential.

Naloxone is a life-saving medication used to reverse opioid overdoses, and its availability is crucial in combating the opioid crisis. In Camarillo, the Saving Lives Camarillo Coalition has taken a significant step forward by becoming an official responder and distribution location for Naloxone.

What is Naloxone?
Naloxone, also known by the brand name Narcan, is a medication that rapidly reverses opioid overdoses. It works by binding to opioid receptors in the brain, displacing opioids, and restoring normal breathing patterns. Naloxone is safe, easy to administer, and can be administered via injection or nasal spray.

The Importance of Naloxone:
Immediate Response: Opioid overdoses can be fatal if not treated promptly. Naloxone provides an immediate response, giving individuals experiencing an overdose a chance at survival.
Accessibility: Making naloxone readily available in communities increases the likelihood of bystanders being able to intervene in overdose situations, potentially saving lives.

Saving Lives Camarillo’s Role:
Saving Lives Camarillo has become an official responder and distribution location for Naloxone in the community. This means that individuals can access naloxone kits, receive training (through the Opioid Prevention Program) on how to administer the medication, and find support from the coalition in addressing opioid-related issues.
